ammunition fired in an open bolt gun.
Warning--Don’t fire
CCI Blazer ammunition in open-bolt firearms.
Rick Wyant was recently firing one of our laboratory’s
45 ACP MAC-10 machine gun that fires from an open
bolt when he began to experience fired cartridge case
jamming, as well as a stuck FMJ bullet in the barrel
of the MAC-10. An examination of the fired cartridge
cases revealed that they had blown case walls.
We surmised that unlike ammunition that is fully
supported by the chamber before it is fired, that
the round was being detonated before it fully entered
the chamber of the barrel. Brass cartridge cases did
not have this problem fired in the same gun, but the
aluminum casings do not have the same metallurgical
properties.
It should be pointed out that this is not a problem
of faulty ammunition, rather subjecting the ammunition
to a situation that it was not designed for.

heres another story why)
Well went out to try my 10" Suomi upper out
today and break it in.
I allready have a 6" Suomi upper but when the
Thompson kits came out I just had to get
a 10" so it would have that Thompson look !
Needless to say I bought 1000 rounds of CCI Blazer
115 gr 9mm because the price was right. First time
I have used it.
Ran a few rounds thru it to make sure sear was holding
as it was ( Monster Sear are the BEST !) and loaded
up 1/2 a coffin mag to let it run ! About the 6th
shout out KABOOM ! Let off the
trigger and looked at the bolt and low and behold
1/2 a brass casing was mashed into the round the bolt
had just stripped off the clip and sending into the
chamber. Looked over at my left arm that was bleeding
in about 6 spots and thought What the _ _ _ _ ! There
was little pieces of brass sticking into my arm .
The shell before it had no powder so the primer lodged
the bullet 4 " down the barrel which as far as
I can tell shot the bolt back picked up another round
and BOOM ! Anyone out there had that pleasant experiance
yet ? Loaded my gear, went home and started picking
brass out of my arm. Anyone want to buy some CCI ammo
cheap?
Got to say one thing, These Stonycreek uppers are
tough ! Got 2 bullets
out of this upper that were jammed and she did'nt
blow ! Jeff, Guess
you know I'll be ordering another barrel just to be
on the safe side
but it looks unharmed ! Thanks for the quality steel
you use!
